Chrysanthemum Spray Bunch

Rooted cuttings planted in rich field beds in May or June.

Foliage pinched through July to produce multi-flowered spray stems.

Abundant autumn harvest runs from late September through November.

Stems cut back to ground level in December; crowns overwinter safely under mulch.

Harvest in the cool early morning when stems are fully turgid and hydration is peak.

Cut stems diagonally at a 45-degree angle using sharp, sanitized floral shears.

Strip all foliage from the lower portion of the stems that will sit submerged below the water line.

Place immediately into clean, lukewarm water mixed with commercial floral preservative.

Recut stems by 1-2 cm under running water every 2 days to clear air embolisms.

Change vase water completely every 48 hours to prevent bacterial biofilm build-up.

Keep floral vase away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and ripening fruit (ethylene gas).
